The mixed team wins the 18th Main Metropolitan Cup in 1:13:54 and, as the fastest boat, takes the Hessian championship title.
Frankfurt am Main, 10 May 2026 – The Main Metropolitan Cup (MMC) took place at the weekend in front of the Frankfurt skyline, a fixed date in the calendar of the German outrigger scene. The Frankfurter Ruder- und Kanusportverein Sachsenhausen 1898 e. V. (FRVS) won the mixed category with its mixed team in 1:13:54 hours and at the same time set the best time of all boats. That earned the team the title in the Open Hessian Championship in outrigger sport.
The Main Metropolitan Cup
The MMC is organised by the Frankfurter Kanu-Verein 1913 e. V. (FKV); 2026 was its 18th edition. Since 2022 it has also served as the Open Hessian Championship for outrigger 1-man, 2-man and 6-man boats as well as surfski; this year it was held as a championship for the fifth time. The 15-kilometre course in front of the Frankfurt skyline offers a spectacular backdrop and demands a lot technically and tactically, with current and several turns.
Twelve six-man boats (V6) started: 4 open crews and 8 mixed teams. A mixed boat must have at least two women on board.
Wire-to-wire victory in the “Main Adler”
The FRVS boat “Main Adler” was crewed by Christiane, Florian, Jürgen, Lars, Stefan and Gaby. The team led from the start and never gave up the lead. The second-fastest boat was the second Frankfurt team, from the FKV, four minutes behind us (1:17:54). The best open crew was SSKC Aschaffenburg with 1:22:47. Compared with 2024, when we set the overall best time of 1:16:19, we were also 2:25 minutes faster this time.
Decisive factors were the harmonious paddling technique and the precise coordination in the boat. The support of the coaches and of the fans on the bank helped as well.
Hessian championship and a good start to the season
The win at the MMC means the title of Hessian Champion 2026 and confirms the season preparation. At the season opener in Berlin (“Rund um Scharfenberg”), the team had already taken first place in the mixed category. At the MMC it picked up right where it left off and even left all the open crews behind.
