FRVS athletes at the IVF Sprint World Championship
Our club fielded as many as 7 athletes to take part in this year's IVF World Sprint Championships 2022, London. From 8–16 August 2022, the international races were held on Dorney Lake near Windsor.
We competed alongside other athletes from Germany and German clubs in the categories Elite Women, Club Women over-40, Club Men over-40, Club Men over-50.
The German elite women reached the final and paddled their way to 6th place in the international comparison.

As a small surprise, the German over-50 men clearly dominated their first heat over 1000 m with 3 turns and, with a lead of over a boat length, relegated the clear favourites from New Zealand and Hawaii to the lower places, thus advancing directly to the semi-final. Unfortunately they couldn't build on this performance, and so they were eliminated in the semi-final against the strong field of competitors – unfortunately also against teams that had already been beaten in the optimally executed first heat but reached the semi-final via the repechage.
Unfortunately our Maren, having fallen ill with Covid a week earlier, had to keep away from both the sporting action and the regatta course itself for the time being. We were all very sorry about that. It's really extremely difficult to have to give up what you've focused your preparation on for the last few months.
A small compensation for this unfortunate situation: Maren was allowed back to the course for the last 2 race days and could support the organisers a little as a volunteer too. One of her tasks took her onto one of the umpire boats. So in the end she got to be there „up close“ after all and experienced the thrilling finals from a unique perspective.
