FRVS at the Sprint Championship

in the vaʻa in Munich

Our athletes competed in the vaʻa (outrigger canoe) on the 1972 Olympic course in various disciplines against strong competition from all over Germany.

Even though we couldn't defend all the championship titles from the previous year, our team delivered consistently strong performances: in several races we secured 2nd place in both the individual and the team disciplines – proof of our good preparation, the cohesion in the boat and the steady development of our technique. We're especially proud of one of our athletes, Christiane, who prevailed in her class against all her rivals and may now

call herself German champion in the single vaʻa sprint, women, over 500 m. Congratulations on this great success!

The regatta was a highlight not only in sporting terms but also a real experience in terms of atmosphere. The backdrop of Munich's 1972 Olympic course with its impressive structures, the professional setting and the motivating mood among the participants made the competition a special event.

We thank the organisers for the smooth organisation and are delighted with the many positive encounters with other teams. The German Sprint Championship showed us how much potential there is in our club – and how important cohesion, training and passion are for success.

The organisation by the Munich Canoe Regatta Association was professional and warm, the grounds offered perfect conditions for athletes and spectators, and the mood was consistently positive and motivating.

We competed in various classes over distances of 500 m and 1500 m. The classes included, for example, V1 (= unsteered single outrigger canoe, vaʻa), OC-1 (single outrigger = pedal-steered single outrigger canoe) and six-person boats for men, mixed and women.
