40 km of relaxation in the Middle Rhine valley

On 25 August, some canoeists from the adult canoe group paddled the picturesque stretch between Geisenheim and the Loreley near St. Goarshausen. The kilometres were not few, especially for our „newcomers“ Michaela and Maren, for whom it was the first water tour. They mastered the challenge successfully and, on their very first time, managed almost 40 kilometres in a touring boat in a single day.

The mood was very relaxed, thanks also to the perfect guidance of Ian Irmler from WSV Geisenheim – a friendly local club – who showed us the most beautiful spots. He guided us easily through the rocks and the heavy Rhine boat traffic, so that we could enjoy the wonderful views to the full. From the water, numerous beautiful vineyards and castles, small and larger towns and lots of nature came into view. During the short lunch break on an island we were able to visit Pfalzgrafenstein Castle and take great photos.

We arrived in the late afternoon at the Loreley statue. At that moment, the verses of the famous song fitted perfectly:

The air is cool and it grows dark,

And calmly flows the Rhine;

The mountain's peak is glittering,

In the evening sunshine.

Whether the legend is true is hard to say. We all arrived safe and sound at our destination. One thing can be said for certain: everyone was thrilled by the Rhineland-Palatinate landscape and will happily be out and about there again, on foot or by boat.
